Installation Guidelines for the Gardener Unit

Step 1: Prepare the site

►  Dig a trench the full length and width of the wall you want to construct. The depth of the trench should be slightly more than the height of one unit.

Place leveling pad, consisting of a 2 to 3-inch layer of crushed stone or gravel, over compacted soil.

Step 2: Set the base course

Once the leveling pad is complete, install the first layer of units. For correct alignment, use a string line along the back to make sure they are flush. Use a level to ensure the units are uniform front-to-back and side-to-side.

After the base course is level and in place, use the soil created from digging the trench to backfill the void behind the units. It is important to tightly compact the soil to ensure a soil base for the rest of the courses.

Step 3: Stack additional courses

Before placing the second course of units onto the base, make sure the top of the first layer of units has been cleaned and is free of debris.

Place the next course onto the existing layer backfill with dirt and compact.

Repeat, placing additional courses of units until the desired height is reached.

Special considerations

Sharp curves and half units will require cutting with a masonry cut-off saw,* which can be rented at most equipment stores.

Unit dimensions: 4" high x 12" wide x 8" deep

*Follow instructions on proper usage of equipment, and always wear your safety glasses and shoes.
